Date

BERC accepts a grant from BirdLife International (BirdLife), in its capacity as Regional Implementation Team (RIT) for the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) in the Mediterranean Basin Hotspot, to carry out a project aiming at the conservation of “Nablus iris” (Apr. 2020 – March 2022)

The project is centered on the engagement of civil society to support the conservation of the ecosystem and plants that are critically endangered or have highly restricted ranges in the Nablus area with special emphasis on the Nablus iris (Iris lortetii var. samariae).

The project involves: 1. Increasing knowledge and skills to support assessment and planning for the conservation of plants, and foster the emergence of a new generation of young professionals in plant conservation; 2. Support integration of plant conservation into the management of protected areas; and 3. Support innovative actions for the conservation of important populations of plants, working with land owners and managers.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Environmental Quality Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture and local institutions.
